CEOS OF MCDF AND GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT FACILITY DISCUSS SUSTAINABLE CONNECTIVITY COOPERATION
Beijing, China, 09 November 2023

Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) CEO Wang Zhongjing hosted a bilateral meeting with Global Environment Facility (GEF) CEO and Chairperson Carlos Manuel Rodriguez and staff at the MCDF Secretariat in Beijing on 9 November.

CEO Wang and CEO Rodriguez noted the importance of cross-border connectivity infrastructure for tackling climate change and broader environment and social (E&S) development challenges. They went on to discuss MCDF and GEF’s strategies, operational priorities, and cooperation opportunities.

CEO Wang described MCDF’s growth as an independent multilateral initiative that boosts sustainable cross-border connectivity infrastructure in developing countries through partnerships with governments and International Financial Institutions (IFIs), with strong emphasis on climate and E&S standards.

He highlighted MCDF’s project preparation, capacity building, and information sharing activities in these and related areas. He also shared insights on deepening support for client countries and IFIs, in alignment with their climate and E&S development goals.

“All countries face climate and other environment challenges regardless of their pace of economic development,” said CEO Wang. “MCDF and GEF each have a special role to play in bringing governments and partners together to deliver sustainable connectivity infrastructure solutions.”

CEO Wang and CEO Rodriguez affirmed their desire to enhance MCDF-GEF collaboration and explored avenues to do so in areas such as technology and climate finance, biodiversity, and E&S safeguards.
