New Development Bank President and MCDF CEO Discuss Deepening of Partnership

During New Development Bank (NDB)’s 2023 Annual Meeting held in Shanghai, China from 30-31 May 2023, Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF)’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Zhongjing Wang met with NDB’s President Ms. Dilma Vana Rousseff and discussed the deepening of partnership between MCDF and NDB particularly in critical policy areas including information and knowledge sharing on topics such as environmental and social standards and renewable energy.

At the NDB Annual Meeting’s high-level seminar entitled “Deepening the Global Partnership for Development,” CEO Wang was one of the keynote speakers. He pointed out that MCDF was designed explicitly to deepen global partnerships for development with its three principles of connectivity, quality and partnership. “We are called the multilateral cooperation centre because we believe in the crucial role of multilateralism and in particular IFIs. ” “Through our Collaboration Platform and Finance Facility we seek to bring together all financiers - multilateral, bilateral and commercial - to promote knowledge and financial cooperation.” He highlighted that MCDF has financed 10 projects with $12.5 million grants which are expected to mobilize resources of $2.87 billion in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

On the sideline of the NDB Annual Meeting, MCDF team also met with the representatives of Brazil and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In the meeting with Ms. Tatiana Rosito, Secretary of International Affairs, Ministry of Finance of Brazil, CEO Wang highlighted ongoing MCDF’s project preparation support for AIIB’s on-lending to BDMG. Secretary Rosito expressed her country’s keen interest in working with MCDF. They discussed priority sectors for connectivity infrastructure projects in Brazil and other collaboration potentials.

Mr. Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary, Ministry of Finance of UAE and Alternate Governor to NDB, highlighted UAE’s efforts in preparing for COP28 and potential collaboration on COP28 Finance Day. He expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between MCDF and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. CEO Wang underscored MCDF’s mandate to enhance quality connectivity and infrastructure investment through partnership, and expressed support for UAE’s presidency of COP 28.
