A Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) delegation led by CEO Wang Zhongjing met with senior Hungarian government officials alongside the MCDF Governing Committee (GC) meeting and GC retreat in Budapest, hosted by the Hungarian Ministry for Economic Development.

On 13-15 December, the MCDF delegation held bilateral meetings with Hungary’s Minister of Finance Mihály Varga, State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Tibtor Toth, State Secretary of the Ministry for Economic Development Máté Lóga, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Tristan Azbej.

State Secretary Lóga welcomed GC members and observers and the MCDF delegation to the GC meeting on 14 December, having overseen Hungary’s role as 2023 GC chair. State Secretary Lóga noted the value of deepening cooperation with MCDF and partners for promoting connectivity growth. CEO Wang thanked the Hungarian government for its hospitality and strong support as well as its strategic guidance to MCDF. This includes State Secretary Lóga’s service as 2023 GC chair.

CEO Wang briefed Finance Minister Varga on the progress MCDF has made over the past three years and noted that MCDF looks forward to continuous support from Hungary.

Minister Varga provided an update on Hungary’s economic development. He also underscored the strategic importance of renewable energy development for Hungary’s sustainable growth, an area that has been a key focus of MCDF cross-border connectivity infrastructure project preparation, capacity building, and information sharing activities.

Minister Varga expressed support for MCDF and his desire to expand collaboration with it.

State Secretary Azbej, who oversees the Hungary Helps development assistance program, and other Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry officials briefed CEO Wang and MCDF staff on the program, its Africa expansion, and other priorities. CEO Wang expressed interest in seeing MCDF work with Hungary’s government and enterprises to promote international development.

While in Budapest, MCDF Secretariat staff also gave presentations on MCDF at the Hungarian Banking Association (HBA) and Hungarian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (HVCA). The presentations highlighted opportunities for knowledge and project collaboration with MCDF.

HBA and HVCA members discussed their interest in cross-border connectivity infrastructure development and working with MCDF in the future.
