The Government of the Republic of Indonesia (Ministry of Finance), The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) co-organized a virtual workshop on Post-COVID-19 Infrastructure and Connectivity in Indonesia: Challenges and Opportunities on 18 May 2022.
The “investment matching” workshop brought together over 130 participants including officials and representatives from the Indonesian government, multilateral development banks and other official and commercial lenders, to discuss potential infrastructure projects with the aim to promote regional connectivity. Four Ministries – the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs (on behalf of the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA)), the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Ministry of Development Planning (Bappenas), and Ministry of Transportation - showcased their pipeline of projects and development needs. In addition, Multilateral Development Banks and official and commercial lenders presented their investment policies and strategies in the region. The detailed agenda can be found below.
In his opening remarks, the Head of MCDF’s Platform Team Strahan Spencer emphasized that “MCDF stands ready to support the Government of Indonesia’s commitment to prepare high quality infrastructure projects. This event today is just the start… I very much look forward to follow-up conversations and support to you, together with our IFI partners, that lead to investments and projects on the ground.”
H.E. Mr. Raja Misra, Director General of the Infrastructure Investment Department (Region 1) at AIIB underscored the Bank’s commitment to support sustainable connectivity projects in Indonesia throughout the whole project cycle with other development partners such as IsDB and MCDF.
H.E Mr. Salah Jelassi, Resident Representative of IsDB Group, Jakarta Regional Hub pointed out that IsDB has been present in Indonesia since 1978 and has over 300 operations with over USD 7 billion of investment and support. The joint workshop facilitates the exploration of sovereign and non-sovereign co-financing opportunities for connectivity infrastructure Indonesia. This strategically aligns with the transformation of IsDB as global developer’s platform for mobilizing full spectrum of resources to support development agenda of MCs. The IsDB Group looks forward to new initiatives and collaborations between the GOI and MDBs. We hope that by collaborating, we will be able to better address and accelerate Indonesia's infrastructure development.
