I, R.M.S. Bandara, hold a BSc Special Degree in Geology with Second Class Upper Honors (1987) and MSc in Engineering Geology, both from the University of Peradeniya. I am a Chartered Geologist at the Institute of Geologists of Sri Lanka and have over 34 years of experience in both the private and government sectors as an Engineering Geologist. I previously served as Director of the Landslide Research and Risk Reduction Division at NBRO, Sri Lanka’s focal point for landslide management. Currently, I am the Project Director for the AIIB-funded Reduction of Landslide Vulnerability by Mitigation Measures Project. Additionally, I have successfully led World Bank-funded landslide mitigation projects (CRIP) focused on roads and schools. I also served as the lead Engineering Geology Consultant for the JICA-funded Landslide Disaster Protection Project (LDPP) with the Road Development Authority, addressing landslide risks along key hill country roads and other vital infrastructure projects in the region.
