As a Social Development Specialist, she assists in integration of social dimensions into the operational work of AIIB. She is part of the gender team at SFD that supports gender mainstreaming in operations. She contributed to the development of the Approach Note on Mainstreaming Gender in AIIB Operations, and Corporate Gender Action Plan being drafted. Shagun also focuses on managing the environmental and social risks in sovereign-backed financing (SBF) projects and of other non-sovereign-backed financings (NSBF) projects.
Prior to joining AIIB, Shagun has supported the World Bank’s social risk management portfolio as a social safeguards and gender specialist in India. She has extensive experience in gender mainstreaming and GBV prevention and mitigation and gender mainstreaming in management, supervision and implementation support for the investment projects and programs across all the sectors. She was part of the South Asia Gender Platform portfolio review of gender and GBV considerations in World Bank operations.
She holds two master’s degrees in governance and development from the Institute of Development Studies in Sussex, UK, and in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, India.
