Susrutha (aka Sus) Goonasekera is a Senior Social Development Specialist at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). He joined AIIB in 2019 and is currently based in Abu Dhabi. He is responsible for the integration of social development dimensions into the operational work of AIIB, recognizing the importance of this issue in development of sustainable infrastructure. His work contributes to the inclusion of vulnerable groups in the development discourse, and to promote cohesion and accountability of development projects, which are key ingredients of empowering people to overcome poverty. Prior to joining AIIB, he served in a similar capacity at the World Bank in Colombo and helped task teams to enhance social opportunities and mitigate social risks associated with development projects and programs in South Asia. Sus holds a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's in development studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
