Feasibility Study (Phase I) of the Caspian Green Energy Corridor Project
MCDF’s grant to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, together with USD1 million technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank, is jointly funding a feasibility study for the proposed Caspian Green Energy Corridor Project. The project involves a high-voltage submarine electricity cable and associated transmission facilities connecting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan across the Caspian Sea.
The grant is funding technical, economic, financial, and environmental and social studies based on International Financial Institution standards and best practices.
The proposed submarine electricity cable is expected to connect the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, allowing for the exchange of electricity and resources. It would in turn promote the creation of a Caspian green energy corridor that could enable Central Asian countries to export renewable energy to Europe.
