Manuela Ferro was appointed World Bank Vice President for East Asia and Pacific in September 2021. She manages World Bank relations with 26 countries, over 1,000 staff, and a portfolio totaling around US$35 billion. In Fiscal Year 2023, she oversaw US$7.6 billion in new financial commitments for 41 operations in the region.
Manuela Ferro has over three decades of experience in development and held several leadership positions in the World Bank, including most recently as Vice President of Operations Policy and Country Services, in which she played a key role in the World Bank’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She had leadership roles in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East and North Africa. She also worked on South Asia and Africa earlier in her career.
A Portuguese national, she holds an MSc./Engineering Degree from the Technical University of Lisbon and a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Stanford University in California.
