Maria Paula Vargas is a Peruvian economist with a strong academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Sussex, with specialization in macroeconomics, financial inclusion and financial development. She currently serves as Director of Fiscal Risks at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Peru. She has extensive experience in both the public sector—having held leadership roles in institutions such as the Ministry of Economy and Finance, SUNAT, SBS, BCRP, and others—and the private sector, including Banco de Crédito del Perú and Interbank. Her career also includes academic and research work, with publications on applied econometrics, risk analysis, informality, economic and financial development.
