Botswana – Zambia Interconnector (BOZA)
The MCDF grant funds a full feasibility study on developing a 400 kilovolt (kV) interconnector facility project to enable renewable energy power exchange between Botswana and Zambia. The feasibility study will draw upon an initial pre-feasibility study supported by the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) and include an environmental impact assessment and resettlement action plans.
The grant will help ensure that the Botswana – Zambia Interconnector project is prepared in line with International Financial Institution (IFI) standards for financing by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and partners. The project is a major power transmission initiative aimed at facilitating cross-border electricity trade between Zambia and Botswana, while also contributing to broader regional grid integration.
