Darbaza – Maktaaral Railway Construction Project

The MCDF grant funds preparatory activities for a 139.5-kilometer railway line between Darbaza and Maktaaral in southern Kazakhstan, establishing an additional border crossing with Uzbekistan. The grant will support an environmental and social impact assessment, a noise and vibration assessment, an operational rail safety review, alternative option studies, an environmental and social action plan, legal due diligence, and preparation of legal documents.

The grant will help the project adhere to International Financial Institution standards and good practices, paving the way for cofinancing of Darbaza-Maktaaral Railway construction by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and partners.
