MCDF CEO Zhongjing Wang recently met senior government officials in Hungary to strengthen collaboration and seek guidance on MCDF’s future direction.
He met Mr. Tibor Toth, State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance; Mr. Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Hungary Helps Program; and Mr. Marton Bokay, Deputy State Secretary, Ministry of Economic Development.
Mr. Wang provided briefings on recent activities by MCDF’s Collaboration Platform, which promotes communications and collaboration among International Financial Institutions (IFI) and other development partners, and its Finance Facility, which provides grant resources to fund MCDF activities. He said: “Despite the difficulties of this year stemming from COVID-19, MCDF is committed to continuing to strengthen multilateral partnerships that help realize countries’ strategic development goals through high-quality connectivity infrastructure investments.”
The Hungarian officials commended the achievements of MCDF in such a difficult time. They encouraged MCDF to work with its IFI implementing partners to enhance connectivity between landlocked countries, such as Hungary, and neighboring regions to strengthen energy and transport connectivity. They also highlighted the potential for Hungarian financial institutions to provide co-financing to boost investments in connectivity infrastructure.
In 2023, Hungary will replace Egypt as the rotating chair of MCDF’s Governing Committee.
