Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) CEO Zhongjing Wang welcomed China Finance Minister Lan Fo’an at MCDF’s exhibition booth at the 2025 Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Annual Meeting in Beijing, on 25 June. CEO Wang held bilateral meetings with the Finance Ministers of Djibouti, Georgia, Maldives, and Tajikistan, respectively, on the sidelines of the annual meeting, on 23-27 June. CEO Wang and MCDF Secretariat staff also met other senior AIIB member officials that week, setting the stage for further building MCDF’s network for promoting high-quality connectivity infrastructure investment through partnerships.
CEO Wang thanked Minister Lan for visiting the MCDF booth and expressed his gratitude for China’s strong support for MCDF. Together with senior MCDF staff, they discussed the progress and impact of MCDF project preparation, capacity building, and information-sharing activities showcased at the MCDF booth. This includes MCDF’s rapidly growing portfolio of grants supporting early-stage, high-quality connectivity infrastructure projects, information and knowledge-sharing events and reports to facilitate greater adoption of International Financial Institution (IFI) standards and good practices in such projects, and partnership expansion with governments, IFIs, and New Partners (developing country financiers).
The other finance ministers CEO Wang met during the AIIB Annual Meeting include Djibouti Finance Minister Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh, Georgia Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili, Maldives Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, and Tajikistan Finance Minister Faiziddin Qahhorzoda.
CEO Wang and MCDF Secretariat staff also met Ms. Amina K. Shaaban, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Public Finance Management) at Tanzania’s Ministry of Finance and Planning; Mr. Yusuf Abdulla Alhumood, Deputy Chairman, Ministry of Finance and National Economy and Undersecretary of Financial Affairs, Bahrain; and Mr. Ilhomjon Umrzakovy, Deputy Finance Minister, Uzbekistan. Bilateral meetings were also held with Ms. Hege Haaland, Director General, Department of Sustainable Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway; Mr. Robert Woods, Director of Global Economics, HM Treasury, United Kingdom; Mr. Pawel Siwek, Director, International Cooperation Department at Poland’s Ministry of Finance; Ms. Camilae Maia Carneiro Costa, Project Director at Brazil’s Ministry of Finance; Mr. Dhani Ram Sharma, Joint Secretary, International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, Ministry of Finance, Nepal; and Ms. Ines Menendez De Luarca, Deputy Head of Multilateral Development Banks, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Group of 20 (G20) at Spain’s Ministry of Finance.
During these bilateral meetings, CEO Wang and senior MCDF Secretariat staff briefed finance ministers and other senior officials on MCDF’s work and the Independent Evaluation of its operations that is currently underway. He invited countries to actively participate in MCDF’s information and knowledge-sharing activities, identify opportunities to access MCDF’s grant support, and join the strategic planning for MCDF’s next phase.
CEO Wang additionally met with Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute Director, Mr. Charymuhammet Shallyyev, to discuss opportunities for further information and knowledge-sharing cooperation. Technical bilateral meetings were also held between MCDF senior staff and Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Principal Secretary, National Treasury and Economic Planning, Kenya; Mr. Victor Luvhengo of South Africa’s Treasury; Ms. Kampeta Sayinzoga, CEO of Rwanda Development Bank; and a team from the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD).
