Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) Senior Advisor to the CEO Ayumi Konishi discussed MCDF and its digital platform JIGSAW during briefings with government officials and stakeholders in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 7 May and Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 9 May.
In Riyadh, Mr. Konishi introduced MCDF’s latest information sharing, capacity building, and project preparation activities for promoting high-quality cross-border connectivity infrastructure investment in developing countries to Saudi Arabia Finance Ministry officials and representatives of the National Development Fund, Saudi EXIM Bank, and Saudi Fund for Development.
This included a deep dive look at JIGSAW, MCDF’s digital solution for promoting high-quality connectivity infrastructure investment, and how stakeholders in Saudi Arabia, such as technology leaders, project developers, and project financiers, can take advantage of MCDF and JIGSAW.
In Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) organized a workshop on JIGSAW attended by more than 40 officials from MEF; the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology; Ministry of Post and Telecommunications; Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction; Ministry of Rural Development; Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries; Ministry of Public Works and Transport; and Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation.
The workshop included a presentation by the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone Master Plan Secretariat, which successfully completed the first MCDF Finance Facility-supported project. It described the project’s capacity development support for the cross-border economic corridor/special economic zone in Cambodia’s Sihanoukville Province.
Mr. Konishi also met with Saudi Arabia’s MCDF Governing Committee (GC) representative and 2024 GC Chair, Mr. Saud Abumelha, Director General of International Financial Institutions at Saudi Arabia’s Finance Ministry, and Cambodia’s GC representative, Mr. Pen Thirong, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Economy and Finance.
“MCDF continues to work closely with Saudi Arabia and Cambodia as both donor and beneficiary countries of MCDF’s collaborative efforts to advance high-quality cross-border connectivity infrastructure investment,” said Mr. Konishi. “MCDF’s enhanced JIGSAW platform is an important tool for helping officials and stakeholders maximize the value of MCDF partnership,” he added.
