At the invitation of the Turkmenistan Minister of Finance and Economy Mr. Mammetguly Astanagulov to Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) CEO Zhongjing Wang, the MCDF Secretariat participated in the Turkmenistan Investment Forum 2025 (TIF 2025) held in Awaza, Turkmenistan on 18-19 September.
Mr. Ayumi Konishi, Senior Advisor to MCDF’s CEO, joined more than 800 people from over 45 countries at TIF 2025, including many international organizations, multilateral development banks, and commercial banks, as well as developers and energy and logistics companies. They discussed the growing importance of Turkmenistan for connecting Central Asia with Europe, other parts of Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa.
Participants highlighted the potential for deeper cooperation between Turkmenistan and other countries in Central and West Asia, such as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. They noted opportunities for jointly promoting the adoption of climate-smart technology, public-private partnerships, and digital technology development, including artificial intelligence.
Mr. Konishi held bilateral meetings with Turkmenistan Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Mr. Babaniyaz Yalakov; Ms. Romanova Galina Ivanovna, Head of the Consolidated Public Finance and Economic Policy Department at Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Finance and Economy; Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute Director Mr. Charymuhammet Shallyyev and Deputy Director One Mr. Li Kouqing; Mr. Artur Andrysiak, Asian Development Bank Country Director for Turkmenistan; Mr. Yerbol Bukharbayev, World Free Zones Organization Head of the Regional Office for Central Asia; and other senior officials. They explored possible collaboration for promoting sustainable, high-quality cross-border connectivity investment.
