A Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) delegation led by CEO Zhongjing Wang and senior officials from Brazil’s Finance Ministry discussed opportunities for greater knowledge-sharing and project preparation collaboration to promote sustainable, high-quality connectivity growth during a bilateral meeting in Brasília on 2 February.
The MCDF delegation met with Ambassador Tatiana Rosito, Secretary of International Affairs, Mr. Ivan Tiago Machado Oliveira, Deputy Secretary for Sustainable Development Finance, and staff. CEO Wang thanked Ambassador Rosito for speaking at MCDF’s cross-border connectivity infrastructure finance mobilization seminar at the 2023 Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank annual meeting and Brazil’s role as an Observer country of the MCDF Coordination Committee’s broader knowledge-sharing activities on International Financial Institution (IFI) standards and good practices.
CEO Wang provided an update on MCDF’s information and knowledge-sharing work program, such as its recent green and efficient port conference, current digital infrastructure workshop series, and continuing support for dialogue within the Environment and Social Community of Practice. He also discussed MCDF’s increasing flow of grants for project preparation, capacity building, and information sharing being implemented in Latin America and the Caribbean by accredited MCDF IFI Implementing Partners.
This includes examples such as MCDF’s USD1 million in grant funding for the Brazil BDMG Enhanced Environmental and Social Framework to Support BDMG Asia Connectivity Facility.
Ambassador Rosito expressed her appreciation to MCDF for the progress of its partnership approach to supporting low-carbon and sustainable connectivity infrastructure investment in the region and described Brazil’s complementary efforts to develop a flagship knowledge hub and country investment platforms. She highlighted the country’s Climate and Ecological Transformation Investment Platform launched in 2024 to enable international, national, and private finance aligned Brazil’s climate goals.
CEO Wang welcomed Ambassador Rosito’s suggestion to partner with Brazil on initiatives such as these and said MCDF will explore concrete and impactful ways to do so. He also invited Brazil to actively participate in strategic discussions this year on MCDF’s next phase and attend its first replenishment meeting in Beijing in March, which received Ambassador Rosito’s positive response.
