This interactive two-part capacity building workshop brings together occupational health and safety (OHS) specialists from multilateral development banks (MDBs) and development partners to share practical approaches for strengthening OHS implementation in infrastructure projects. It will consist of a virtual introductory workshop on 24 August and an in-person practical workshop in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 2-3 September.
Introductory Workshop (Virtual)
Designed for project implementing units (PIUs), government agencies, supervising engineers, and contractors, the virtual introductory workshop on 24 August will examine how OHS requirements are translated into procurement and contracts, contractor environmental and social management plans (C-ESMPs), site supervision, incident management, and corrective action. Participants will learn from practical MDB experience, discuss common implementation challenges, and exchange approaches that can be applied directly to infrastructure projects.
What You Will Learn
- Better understand MDB OHS requirements and the respective responsibilities of borrowers, PIUs, supervising engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and MDBs
- Translate OHS requirements into implementation through procurement, contracts, C-ESMPs, and contractor management systems
- Strengthen site supervision and monitoring using practical inspection, reporting, and corrective-action approaches
- Respond to, and learn from, incidents and near misses through timely reporting, investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions
- Learn from peers and MDB specialists through practical case studies, interactive discussions, and implementation experience exchange
Certificate of Participation
Participants who attend the virtual introductory workshop and complete the feedback survey will receive a certificate of participation.
Practical Workshop (In-Person)
Details on the in-person practical workshop on 2-3 September in Tashkent, including participation arrangements, will be communicated separately.

The capacity building workshop (including the virtual introductory workshop and in-person practical workshop) is designed for professionals directly involved in implementing or overseeing OHS in infrastructure projects:
- PIU staff
- Government agencies and regulators
- Supervising engineers
- Contractors and subcontractors, including project managers, site engineers, and OHS personnel
- Environment and social practitioners supporting project implementation
The virtual introductory workshop will combine technical presentations from MDB OHS specialists with practical examples and interactive discussions. Presentations and discussions will be conducted in English. MCDF’s event platform will provide simultaneous AI-generated written translation in 30 languages.
Selected recordings, presentations, and background materials from the virtual introductory workshop will be made available on the MCDF website.
