MCDF Joins Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting in Samarkand

Samarkand, Uzbekistan, 3-6 May 2026

The Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) participated in the 59th Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on 3-6 May. MCDF’s bilateral meetings there with ADB management and member country officials focused on deepening partnership to promote high-quality connectivity infrastructure investment in the region and beyond.

Meeting with ADB President Masato Kanda, MCDF’s representative at the ADB annual meeting, Mr. Ayumi Konishi, Senior Advisor to MCDF’s CEO, congratulated ADB on successfully hosting the event and thanked him for ADB’s continued partnership in support of connectivity development since it helped launch MCDF in 2021.

Mr. Konishi held bilateral meetings with ADB Vice President for East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Scott Morris, Vice President for South, Central, and West Asia, Mr. Yingming Yang, and 14 heads of departments and offices. ADB management colleagues welcomed MCDF’s strong growth in connectivity project preparation and capacity building grants across Asia and the Pacific and globally over the past five years and said there are increasing opportunities for ADB and MCDF to work together in these respects.

ADB department and sectoral staff reaffirmed their support for knowledge-sharing and collaboration in line with ADB’s role as an International Financial Institution (IFI) member of the MCDF Coordination Committee. MCDF expressed its appreciation for ADB’s cohosting of MCDF conferences and workshops aimed at promoting public-private partnerships, integrity and compliance, renewable energy technology development, and green and efficient ports based on IFI standards and good practices.

Bilateral meetings were also held with delegations from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Japan, Maldives, Mongolia, Philippines, and Thailand, including five deputy ministers and undersecretaries. These meetings discussed the ongoing first replenishment of the MCDF Finance Facility and deepened countries’ understanding of MCDF operations and achievements.
